Malaysia Travel News has a New Domain

Update Dec 26th 2020 – We have stopped operating the main Malaysia Travel News website since 2015 and only manage Facebook as MalaysiaTravelNews and Twitter – MsiaTravelNews.

You can also visit David.my or  my main WordPress site – malaysiatravelnews.wordpress.com/

The reason? It is really sad because the tourism industry in Malaysia never really understood the power of digital back in 2013 and was more convinced by magazines and on-ground promotions.

Suddenly in 2018, the overall tourism industry became interested in digital, and those who came in late were excited about this. I mean, back then, I was already pioneering this, and suddenly, now, it’s a digital generation.

Even when we got thousands of hits daily on our travel site, it meant nothing to the tourism industry. Even Tourism Malaysia was no angel because they could never understand this digital thing.

We did our utmost best to educate the various tourism boards and even tourism industry players, but they never could really see this potential and future.

However, since the COVID-19 pandemic in Malaysia, everyone is talking about digital transformation in Malaysia. And the tourism industry is suddenly well-versed in this area. Strange right?

Anyway, we have totally given up on trying to work with people who do not understand this properly. Also, it seems like contracts and campaigns are awarded to industry friends, if you know what I mean.

So, regardless if we try hard, we will still be the third or fourth choice if we are lucky. Trust me, I have personally worked with Tourism Malaysia for years and even know the top-rank directors there.

Even that could not make the team below the directors understand what digital was all about. So, in 2016, we gave up trying to convince Tourism Malaysia about the value of third-party digital marketers who can provide a very unique and different approach towards online consumers.

It is now 2020, and we are still lagging behind in digital tourism, but hey, they seem to know better or have the right people or ‘companies’ to help them.

Sadly, even the so-called agencies handling the tourism accounts were mere puppets back then. Budgets were horrible, so you can only imagine what actually was being churned out.

So, whoever is running Tourism Malaysia now, good luck. I can tell you that things will never change, no matter what.

We hope to continue bringing you Malaysia’s best and latest tourism industry news.
