AirAsia X routes increase load factor by 2pc
AirAsia X which is the long haul affiliate of AirAsia, carried 2.58 million passengers in 2012, up 2.2 per cent from 2011. In the fourth quarter of 2012 alone, AirAsia X had 670,000 passengers, up 40.5 per cent over the same quarter in 2011. In terms of passenger traffic, AirAsia X achieved 3.3 billion revenue-passenger kilometers (RPK) and four billion available-seat kilometers (ASK) with a load factor of 83 per cent in the fourth quarter.
The carrier said all the routes that it has operated for over a year have yielded a positive increase in load factor. AirAsia X also recorded a rise in ancillary revenue of 18 per cent in 2012 compared to the previous year with key contributions from Japan and Australia.
On October 15 last year, it stopped servicing Teheran and now flies to 14 destinations in China, Taiwan, Australia, South Korea, Japan, Nepal and Jeddah. AirAsia X chief executive officer Azran Osman-Rani said the carrier had successfully turned around with a strong second half performance in 2012 after the route network consolidation earlier in the year made up for the losses in the first half of last year.
